What we collect

Your email address (and your name, if you sign in with Apple or Google) to sign you in, your username, the posts, replies, votes, reports and blocks you make, and a push notification token if you allow notifications. We check your date of birth once and don't keep it.

Your location

We use your location while the app is open to show posts within 3 miles and to place your posts. When you post, we store its position rounded to roughly a third of a mile. Other people only ever see a distance band such as "1–2 mi", never a place or exact distance. Your town (or district) name, shown at the top of your feed, is looked up by our server from postcodes.io using your position rounded to about 100 metres. It is never stored or attached to anything you post. If you're signed in and have the daily round-up turned on, we also keep the rough area (a cell about 3 miles across) you last opened the app in, so we can tell you how many posts went up near you. We keep it only while notifications are on for this account, keep only the latest one, never a history, and forget it after 30 days without opening the app, when you sign out, or when you turn the round-up off in the Me tab.

Anonymous posts

When you post anonymously, other users can't see who you are. We still know which account wrote it, so we can enforce the rules and meet legal requests.

Who we share it with

Clerk (sign-in), Convex (database and servers), OpenAI (automatic checks on the text of new posts and replies, which isn't used to train their models), Expo (delivering notifications and app updates), Sentry (crash reports: device model, OS version and what the app was doing when it crashed, never your posts or account), postcodes.io (looking up your town or district), Wikipedia and Wikidata (finding facts about your town when its town card is first opened or refreshed, at most once a day, using your position rounded to about 1km; the town's photo then loads on your phone straight from Wikimedia, which sees your IP address) and Apple Weather (the weather at your town's centre, never your own position). We don't sell your data or show ads.

How long we keep it

Until you delete your account or a post. Deleting your account erases your posts, replies, votes and your sign-in identity straight away. Crash reports aren't linked to your account and Sentry deletes them within 90 days.

Your rights

Under UK GDPR you can ask for a copy of your data, ask us to correct or delete it, or object to how we use it. Email us from the Me tab. You can also complain to the Information Commissioner's Office at ico.org.uk.
